Heritage, History & Craftsmanship
This beautifully crafted Arts & Crafts p
...ewter bowl was designed by Oliver Baker for Liberty & Co as part of the celebrated Tudric range, introduced in the early 1900s. Baker — painter, etcher, designer, silversmith and antiquarian - was one of the key creative forces behind Liberty’s early 20th-century aesthetic, working alongside contemporaries such as Archibald Knox.
The bowl’s gently rounded form is raised on three angular trident supports, a sculptural detail characteristic of Liberty’s Celtic Revival influence. The hand-hammered surface adds texture and depth, catching the light softly across the pewter. Made from Liberty’s proprietary high-silver-content alloy, the piece was produced by W. H. Haseler in Birmingham, the firm responsible for much of Liberty’s finest metalwork.
The pewter has developed a soft, even patina over time, enhancing its antique character and giving the bowl a quiet, refined presence.
