Colin Brand Antiques has dated these Antique Rush Chapel Chairs to the 1870s.
Made in High Wycombe, probably in the Walter Skull’s Factory in the 1870’s
Some were originally sold from the cathedral in 1974 to fund some renovations.
As the hand-made lace industry declined, women began to make rush seats, and around 1880 onwards, most matters were women.
Similar examples can be found in the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Wycombe Museum
