Mid-19th-century Zanzibar chest in teak with brass studwork, drawers and original candle box
Why We Love It
This is a wonderfully authentic example - full of history, superb presence, strong decorative appeal - everything a piece of Indian Ocean trade furniture should have. A richly atmospheric and highly decorative mid-19th-century Zanzibar chest, crafted from dense teak and adorned with traditional brass studwork and pierced brass plates.
It has the added appeal of three lower drawers and its original internal candle box and its warm, deep patina, the vermilion-painted back, plus the unmistakable presence of the crisply detailed brasswork all give this chest a commanding decorative impact.
