Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A milking stool is a compact, low-standing seat historically used by agricultural workers during livestock milking. Originated as utilitarian countryside furniture throughout Europe, these items were built low to the ground with three or four stable legs to accommodate uneven barn flooring.

Rural artisans constructed folk stools using locally sourced hardwoods or softwoods such as pine, oak, ash, or elm. Legs were typically shaped by hand and fitted into the seat slab using wedged through-tenon joinery, often finished with milk paint or lead-based oil paints.

Authentic pieces display natural wear patterns around the seat edges and lower legs where feet were rested. Original paint finishes show layered oxidisation, natural craquelure, and timber contraction around joint insertion points rather than artificial distressing.

A rustic milking stool functions effectively as a sculptural accent on a fireplace hearth, a low riser for displaying ceramics, or an occasional side table beside low upholstered seating. The painted timber texture provides visual warmth and contrast against minimal modern finishes.

Maintain original paintwork by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding water or chemical cleansers that may strip historic layers. Keep the piece in a stable ambient humidity environment away from direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage and paint flaking.
