Flow Blue is a style of white glaze earthenware or porcelain characterised by an intentionally blurred blue transfer-printed pattern. Originating in Staffordshire, England, during the 1830s, the soft-focus effect was created by introducing volatilising chemicals into the kiln during firing.

These miniature sets were typically crafted from earthenware, ironstone, or soft-paste porcelain using transfer-printing techniques. A cobalt oxide pigment was applied before firing to create the distinctive pattern on moulded ceramic shapes.
