Finnigans of Manchester

(The House of Finnigans) was a renowned British luxury luggage and leather goods maker established in 1830. Famous for high-quality trunks, vanity cases, and silverware, the family-run business had prominent historical showrooms at 115 Market Street and 123 Deansgate. The firm quickly became a staple for affluent travellers and eventually opened a flagship store at 18 New Bond Street in London, serving high-profile clients like the Vanderbilts and Fords. While the company closed its London operations in 1968, you can often find its historical heritage pieces at antique auctions or view its artifacts in collections like the Science Museum Group.

The "TB&S"

hallmark stands for Thomas Bradbury & Sons (or Bradbury & Sons), a prominent British silversmithing and silver-plating firm originally tracing its roots back to 1736 and formally operating from the 18th century until 1943

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian silver plated trays frequently feature elaborate engraved scrollwork, shell-and-scroll cast borders, and integrated handles, reflecting 19th-century decorative preferences.

These items were manufactured using electroplating or Sheffield plate techniques, bonding a thin layer of fine silver onto a base metal core such as nickel silver or copper.

Authentic pieces carry makers marks or registration numbers stamped on the underside, alongside characteristic signs of electroplating wear revealing the base metal underneath high-wear areas.

Position the tray on a sideboard or coffee table to group glassware, anchor barware collections, or organize candles and small decorative objects.

Polish gently using a specialized silver foam or soft cloth, avoiding abrasive compounds that can strip the thin silver layer from the base metal.
