Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian stick and umbrella stands emerged in the nineteenth century as essential hallway storage fixtures. With the growth of urban middle-class homes and unpredictable British weather, specialized furniture was developed to store walking sticks, canes, and wet umbrellas near entryways.

These stands were primarily constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, or cast iron. Most designs incorporate a removable painted sheet metal or cast iron drip tray at the base to catch water runoff.

Authentic period examples display hand-turned timber posts, mortise and tenon joinery, and natural age-related patina to the timber finish. Drip trays typically feature original lead-based or zinc paint finishes with minor surface oxidation.

Position the stand adjacent to an entryway console or front entrance door to maintain clear floor space. Pair the warm mahogany tones with neutral walls, flagstone flooring, or contemporary runner rugs for balanced visual contrast.

Dust the timber framework regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain. Ensure metal drip trays are dried completely after contact with moisture to prevent corrosion.
