Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian iron and brass bedsteads feature cast or wrought iron frames finished in dark enamel, accented with brass decorative elements such as turned finials, corner mounts, and top rails. Manufactured extensively during the 19th century, these bedsteads were valued for structural durability, hygiene, and ornamental metalwork.

Traditional construction relied on cast-iron corner joints, often referred to as dovetail or drop-in joints, where side rails slotted directly into the headboard and footboard posts. Vertical spindles and crossbars were secured using cast brackets or decorative brass collars.

Authentic 19th-century frames consist of heavy cast iron or wrought iron rather than modern hollow steel, alongside hand-cast corner brackets. Look for makers marks stamped onto brass plaques or cast directly into the iron, as well as brass fittings displaying natural surface oxidisation.

A metal bedstead serves as a focal point within a sleeping space. Complement the dark iron and brass accents with layered textured textiles, neutral linens, or patterned quilts to balance the visual weight of the metalwork.

Clean painted iron components using a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners that damage historical finishes. Brass fittings can be left unpolished to maintain historic patina or buffed gently with a dry microfibre cloth to remove dust.
