antique vanitybag qashqa'i confederacy kashkuli tayefeh fars province southwest persia - CATEGORY: ANTIQUE RUGS - DATED 1880

Antique Vanity-bag, Qashqa'i Confederacy, Kashkuli Tayefeh, Fars Province, South-west Persia.

£1,150    $1,539    €1,347
The design on this finely knotted little chanteh reminds me of a slalom ski-run! But I''m pretty sure that this is not what the weaver had in mind when she made this bag. Whatever she is depicting here, the wool is soft and lustrous and is complete with its fine complementary weft-weave blue and ivory border, sitting above a row of chevron soumak lappits.

Made during the last quarter of the 19th century by probably the finest weavers within the Qashqa''i Confederation, the Kashkuli, the vanity-bag is complete with its plain-weave back in horizontal bands of red, blue and turquoise.
