Antique English Regency Pair Rosewood Side Chairs

19th century
Description

A fine pair of Regency rosewood side chairs dating to circa 1825. These elegant English chairs are well proportioned and display the clean, refined lines associated with the Regency period.

The chairs feature a beautiful rosewood throughout with broad concave top rails displaying excellent natural grain and colour. The backs are supported by gently curved uprights and fitted with finely carved waist rails decorated with scrollwork, a central flowerhead and beaded detail.

Each chair retains its removable drop-in seat, newly upholstered in a quality neutral fabric with a subtle leaf pattern, making future recovering simple if desired.

The seats are supported on turned and reeded front legs with elegant swept sabre rear legs, giving the chairs a light yet sturdy appearance. Their classic design makes them equally suitable as dining chairs, desk chairs or occasional chairs.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency seating furniture, dating from early 19th-century Britain, is characterised by classical Greek and Roman influences, refined proportions, and graceful elements such as curved top rails and reeded legs.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency period favoured exotic hardwoods like rosewood and mahogany, often combining figure-rich timber with turned reeded legs and hand-carved decorative mid-rails.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display distinct deep grain patterns unique to rosewood, original hand-cut joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, and gentle historical wear on base rails and leg terminals.

A pair of Regency side chairs can be positioned alongside a contemporary console table or incorporated as accent seating in a formal hallway or bedroom to contrast dark timber with neutral wall tones.

Preserve the original timber finish by dusting regularly with a microfibre cloth and applying high-grade beeswax polish annually, whilst keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and radiators.
