Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver & Crystal Bowl, C.1910

1900 - 1920
Description

An elegant and highly decorative antique sterling silver and crystal bowl by Tiffany & Co., dating to around 1910. Crafted by one of America's most celebrated silversmiths and jewellers, this exceptional piece beautifully combines fine crystal with expertly worked sterling silver, making it a striking example of early 20th century craftsmanship.

The substantial crystal bowl features finely executed intaglio-cut segmented panels, richly decorated with chrysanthemum flowers, leaves, and trailing stems that gracefully graduate towards the centre. Encircling the rim is a broad sterling silver mount with an intricate pierced blackberry motif, adding texture, depth, and a distinctly Art Nouveau inspired elegance.

Fully hallmarked beneath the rim with the Tiffany & Co. name and sterling silver marks, this bowl is an authentic and highly collectable example of the firm's renowned silverwork.

Presented in very good antique condition, it displays only light, age related surface scratches to the base, consistent with careful use over more than a century.

Details:

• Decoration: Intaglio-cut chrysanthemum design with pierced blackberry-pattern silver rim

• Condition: Very good antique condition with minor age-related scratches to the underside of the base.

Dealers Notes

Robert Belcher Antiques was established in 1984 and is a high-quality retailer of interesting, rare antiques and decorative objects. After forty years of shop keeping and maintaining beautiful showrooms, which have been regularly open six days a week, Robert and Wendy have now taken a slightly different approach to their business. Having sold their retail premises, the antique business is now fully online. The picture framing service has ceased to operate because of moving online.

You can contact Robert and Wendy by email or telephone to discuss items from their extensive catalogue of attractive pieces and make purchases. Customers can rest assured that the long-established dealership is continuing to run in an exceedingly professional way, selling genuine and high-quality items which are guaranteed to please the most discerning collector, decorator or homeowner.

All items will be personally hand packaged to a high standard. Small items are extensively wrapped using the best materials and are often double boxed. Items are then shipped with DHL or Royal Mail fully insured and often with next day delivery. Larger items would be personally delivered or sent with a specialist antique delivery firm, or for outside the U.K, a professional shipping company.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian silver-mounted glassware typically features high-grade lead crystal or cut glass combined with elaborate sterling silver rims, handles, or bases, often decorated with Rococo Revival scrolls, floral garlands, lattice motifs, and foliage.

The glass body was blown and hand-cut or etched before a custom-fitted sterling silver rim was crafted using techniques such as repousse, chasing, and casting, which was then secured to the rim of the glass structure.

Authentic pieces carry stamped hallmarks indicating purity, such as Sterling or 925, alongside makers marks, while the glass exhibits sharp hand-cut facets and weight characteristic of lead crystal rather than moulded glass.

Place the bowl as a central accent on a dining table, console, or sideboard, allowing ambient light to pass through the glass facets while complementing contemporary neutral or dark wood backgrounds.

Wash the glass interior using warm water and mild dish soap, avoiding harsh submersion, and buff the silver rim separately with a specialised silver polishing cloth to remove oxidisation without exposing the glass to abrasive chemicals.
