Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early twentieth century, these cabinets were designed to showcase fine porcelain, glassware, and silver. They typically featured slim wooden frames, extensive glazing, and delicate legs to emphasise lightness and elegance within formal drawing rooms.

Craftspeople utilised solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine frameworks, fitted with hand-cut clear glass panels that were often bowed or curved. Internal shelves were frequently lined with woven silk or damask fabrics to protect and highlight delicate items.

Authentic period pieces display fine joinery such as hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass escutcheons or keyhole locks, and subtle imperfections in the hand-blown glass. The undertier and slender tapered legs often show age-consistent wear and patination on lower surfaces.

Position the cabinet against a neutral wall to allow the deep tones of mahogany to stand out, using it to display modern ceramics, books, or curated collections. Combining the traditional timber with contemporary minimalist lighting or abstract artwork creates a balanced contrast.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish annually along the wood grain to preserve the patination. Glass panels should be cleaned with a non-ammonia cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the timber frame.
