Exceptional Regency Flame Mahogany Sideboard Server Desk C.1830

19th century
Description

An exceptional and highly decorative Regency flame mahogany sideboard of impressive scale and outstanding craftsmanship, dating to the early nineteenth century, circa 1830.

Constructed from beautifully figured mahogany of remarkable colour and depth, this superb piece showcases some of the finest flame mahogany veneers we have handled in recent years. The rich timbers display striking movement throughout, enhanced by elegant ebony line inlays, architectural raised gallery, reeded columns and beautifully carved lion paw feet.

The design combines practicality with sophisticated Regency styling. The central section features a series of drawers arranged beneath a shaped gallery back, while the two curved pedestal cupboards provide substantial concealed storage. The quality of construction is evident throughout, from the carefully selected veneers and crisply executed mouldings to the substantial proportions and elegant architectural form. Fine Regency mahogany furniture of this calibre continues to be highly sought after by collectors, interior designers and discerning homeowners seeking investment-quality pieces with genuine presence.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Emerging in early 19th-century Britain, Regency sideboards feature classical proportions, architectural symmetry, figured timber veneers such as flame mahogany, and carved details including reeded legs and paw feet.

Craftsmen constructed these pieces using solid mahogany frameworks layered with flame mahogany veneers, incorporating pine or oak secondary drawer linings and cast brass lock escutcheons.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-carved reeding, natural age-related timber shrinkage around joins, and period-correct brass locking mechanisms.

Position the piece as a focal point in a dining room, hallway, or living space, balancing its rich mahogany tones against neutral wall palettes, contemporary artwork, and modern table lamps.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean microfibre cloth, apply natural beeswax along the timber grain once or twice a year, and position the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
