Fine Tabriz Rug, North-west Persia, Circa 1900, 1.50m X 1.02m

1900 - 1920
Description

Finely knotted with soft wool and wonderful subtle colours, this is a really charming Persian rug dating to around 1900. Interestingly, the design has been been borrowed from the famous Chi-Chi rugs woven in the Kuba region of neighbouring Azerbaijan in the 19th century. Rows of geometric ornaments are arranged on a subtle sky-blue field which is framed by an elegant 'Kufic' main border, the classic Chi-Chi rug format faithfully interpreted. It is a handsome rug in a small format which could adorn any kind of space and give it character. Excellent condition. Professionally cleaned.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating from North-West Persia, Tabriz rugs are distinguished by their fine knot density, complex repeating or medallion motifs, and historic weaving tradition dating back centuries.

Authentic Tabriz carpets are hand-knotted using high-grade wool or silk pile spun onto strong cotton or silk foundations, resulting in a durable and detailed weave.

Key identification markers include symmetrical Turkish knots, precise geometric or floral patterning, natural dye colour variations, and a firm, flat weave.

Placing a patterned antique rug beneath clean-lined modern furniture provides visual weight, warmth, and texture, effortlessly anchoring living rooms, dining areas, or studies.

Vacuum gently without a rotating brush, rotate the rug annually to balance traffic wear, blot spills immediately with a clean dry cloth, and rely on specialist textile conservators for deep cleaning.
