Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late eighteenth century, centres such as Bilston and South Staffordshire became prominent for producing small enamel wares. These items were crafted as novelty gifts, snuff boxes, or patch boxes, frequently decorated with hand-painted pastoral scenes or sentimental inscriptions.

These boxes were constructed with a thin copper base coated in vitreous enamel, which was fired at high temperatures. Metal mounts, typically made of brass or gilt-copper, were attached around the rims to hold the hinged lid securely.

Authentic period pieces often show fine hairline cracking or crazing to the enamel surface due to age and handling. Hand-painted decoration exhibits fine brushwork rather than transfer prints, and faint green or brown oxidisation may be visible on the copper substrate where enamel has chipped.

Small enamel boxes function well as decorative accents displayed on vanity trays, bedside tables, or curated shelves. Grouping them with other period metalwork or ceramics creates a textured tabletop display.

Dust the item gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or light brush. Avoid immersion in water or exposure to chemical cleaners, as moisture can seep under cracked enamel and cause the underlying copper base to corrode.
