Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Ormolu candlesticks with lustres are gilt-bronze candle holders decorated with hanging glass or crystal prism droplets. Originating in 18th and 19th-century Europe, the reflective metal and facets of the crystal lustres were designed to amplify and refract light across a room.

These lighting fixtures were traditionally constructed using cast bronze or brass, which was gilding processed (ormolu) to create a bright gold finish. The suspended lustres were crafted from cut lead glass or crystal attached via thin wire hooks.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy cast metal construction, finely hand-chased decorative surface details, and natural oxidisation or gentle wear to the gilding in recessed areas. The crystal droplets are often slightly irregular due to historic hand-cutting methods.

Place a symmetrical pair on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard to frame a central mirror or artwork. The metallic finish and cut glass contrast well against clean modern surfaces or rich paint colours.

Dust the metal regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or metal polishes that can strip the delicate gilding. Individual crystal drops can be removed carefully and wiped with a damp cloth diluted with mild soapy water.
