Exceptional Pair of Antique Vienna Porcelain Empire Amphora Vases & Covers – Signed F. Koller
An outstanding and highly decorative pair of antique Vienna porcelain two-handled vases and covers, beautifully modelled in the form of classical Roman amphorae and executed in the finest vitrified hard-paste porcelain.
Each vase is exquisitely hand-painted with finely detailed classical scenes, one depicting Minerva, while the companion vase is decorated with a corresponding mythological subject. The paintings display exceptional artistry and are further enhanced by lavish burnished and gilt decoration throughout.
Raised on elegant pedestal bases with intricate Empire-style ornamentation, the bases are separately constructed and secured in the traditional manner with period bolts. The vases embody the sophistication and grandeur of the Empire period, combining classical inspiration with superb craftsmanship.
Both pieces bear the famous Vienna beehive mark in underglaze blue to the... base, indicating manufacture by the renowned Imperial Vienna Porcelain Manufactory. The principal painted panels are signed ''F. Koller'', attributed to Friedrich Ludwig von Köller, a highly regarded painter associated with Vienna porcelain during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
Dating to the late 18th century or very early 19th century, these remarkable vases have developed a wonderful untouched patina, particularly to the undersides, entirely consistent with their age and authenticity.

Presented in excellent antique condition overall. One lid has sustained damage (restorable), as clearly shown in the photographs. Aside from this, both vases display beautifully, with vibrant decoration, rich gilding, and no issues detracting from their exceptional decorative appeal.
