Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian sterling silver photo frames are renowned for elaborate decorative techniques such as repousse, chasing, and intricate piercing. Produced in quantity during the late nineteenth century, these frames frequently incorporate rococo revival scrolls, floral elements, classical cartouches, and figurative motifs such as cherubs or animals.

These frames were typically constructed using a sheet of sterling silver that was stamped, cast, or hand-chased, then mounted onto a sturdy wooden or card backing. The backboards and integrated easel supports were often finished in dark silk velvet or fine leather.

Authentic British pieces bear full official assay hallmarks stamped into the silver, including the lion passant mark for sterling purity, an assay city mark, a makers mark, and a specific date letter. The presence of natural wear to high points and hand-finished details on the backboard also indicates period construction.

An ornate silver frame functions as a sophisticated accent piece on a side table, console, or mantelpiece. Pairing silver metalwork with contemporary monochrome artwork or historic portraits creates a balanced contrast within modern, traditional, or eclectic room schemes.

Silver frames should be gently wiped with a dry, soft silver-impregnated polishing cloth to remove surface tarnish without scratching. Liquid polishes and immersion treatments must be avoided to protect the original velvet backing and prevent residue accumulation within intricate pierced work.
