ABOUT

Henri Godet (French 1863 ~ 1937) was born in Paris on 5 March 1863 and died in Vincennes in 1937. Working primarily in bronze, Godet specialised in finely detailed sculptures that reflected both classical training and a sensitivity to natural movement and character. His subjects often included allegorical figures, portraits, and genre scenes, rendered with careful attention to anatomy, texture, and balanced composition.Though not as widely documented as some of his contemporaries, his bronzes were appreciated for their craftsmanship and elegance, appealing to collectors and patrons of decorative and fine art. He was known for his popular busts of women decorated with flowers. Godet exhibited regularly at the Salons from 1883 to 1935

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Nouveau bronze sculptures, prominent from the late 19th to early 20th century, feature organic forms, sinuous lines, and motifs inspired by nature, including flora and female figures.

These sculptures were typically cast using the lost-wax process, followed by hand-chasing and the application of patinas or gilding before being mounted onto marble bases.

Authentic period bronzes display precise cold-work detailing, natural wear on high points, cast or incised sculptor signatures, and original patination rather than modern spray-painted finishes.

Place the sculpture on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or within a bookshelf to create a focal point that bridges historical art with contemporary decor.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth or soft-bristled brush, avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners or polishes that could strip the original gilded layer or patina.
