Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian sterling silver napkin rings were popular table accessories introduced in the 19th century to identify family members cloth napkins between laundering. They typically feature ornate decorative motifs such as repousse scrollwork, foliage, and central cartouches.

These pieces were typically crafted from solid sterling silver containing 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Artisans formed the cylindrical shape from sheet silver, joining the seam and embossing ornamental patterns using repousse and chasing techniques.

Authentic British sterling silver from this era features a complete set of hallmarks, including the lion passant mark, an assay office symbol, a date letter, and a makers mark. Late Victorian examples from 1895 also bear distinct stylistic details such as scroll embossing and unengraved cartouches.

Pairing Victorian silver napkin rings with contemporary linen napkins creates a structured textural contrast on modern dining tables. They can also be displayed inside open dining room cabinetry or sideboards as decorative historic dining accents.

Clean sterling silver periodically using a soft cloth and a gentle silver polish formulated to remove oxidisation without stripping surface detail. Store silver items in dry, velvet-lined presentation boxes or anti-tarnish cloth pouches away from high humidity.
