Tinker & Toad has dated this Italian Impressionist Oil Painting to the 19th Century.
The painting is executed in a confident Impressionist manner, with warm ochres, soft pinks and mauves across the landscape contrasting beautifully with the cool blue-grey sky beyond. Volpato employs loose, expressive brushwork throughout, with areas of rich palette-knife impasto in the foreground adding texture, movement and depth. Signed lower right "H. Volpato". Although relatively little is recorded about the artist, Umberto (or Humberto) Volpato is believed to have been an Italian-born painter active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with works displaying clear influences of the Italian Impressionist tradition. Presented in a complementary gilt frame. Condition: Good overall for its age with a stable paint surface. Framed dimensions: Approx. 67 cm (H) × 85 cm (W) × 5 cm (D).
