Description

Huge c. 1800 Dutch Delft Polychrome Parrot and Lion Vase Chinoiserie Vases

Brief Description:

This is a huge, fabulous country house Dutch Delft vase dating from the late 18th-century, circa 1800.

Measuring a whopping 45.4 cm in height, and complete with the original lid.

The piece has a truly beautiful, protruding dog-type finial on top of the lid, which is surrounded by wonderful chinoiserie panels with flowers.

The huge vase is delightfully hand-painted with chinoiserie gardens, including exotic birds and an adorable yellow lion.

Painted with colours of green, blue, orange, yellow and manganese.

Signed to the base with the Three Bells Symbol, which would indicate it came from the factory of De Brie Klokken, although we do not have any evidence to confirm this.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware produced in and around Delft in the Netherlands from the sixteenth century onwards, developed to imitate imported Chinese porcelain styles.

Polychrome Delft ceramics were crafted using an earthenware body coated with an opaque white tin glaze, painted with metallic oxide pigments such as cobalt blue, antimony yellow, and copper green, and fired in specialized kilns.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit a soft yellow or red earthenware body beneath the glaze, minor pinholes or glaze chips around rim edges, and hand-painted decorative motifs displaying natural variation.

These vessels are styled on a sideboard, console table, or fireplace mantelpiece as singular decorative focal points against neutral backdrop walls.

Clean the surface using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding water immersion or liquid cleaning products that could enter surface crazing.
