Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A joint stool, historically known as a joined stool, is a form of seating produced by a joiner using timber joinery techniques rather than turnery alone. Popular from the sixteenth through the nineteenth centuries, these sturdy low stools served as primary seating before chairs became widely accessible.

Traditional joint stools were constructed using mortise and tenon joints secured with exposed wooden dowels or pegs. They feature a solid timber top attached to an apron framing four turned or straight legs, which are reinforced near the base with low perimeter stretchers.

Authentic period joint stools exhibit signs of age such as slight shrinkage or warping around the pegged construction, irregular hand-turned legs, and wear along the lower stretchers where feet rested. The presence of authentic wooden joinery pegs rather than modern screws or nails further indicates traditional craftsmanship.

A joint stool functions as an accent piece, serving as a low side table beside a sofa, a plant stand, or a decorative display surface in a hallway. Its understated timber form allows it to blend with modern, contemporary, or traditional decor schemes.

Maintain the pine surface by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth and applying a coat of clear beeswax paste once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Avoid placing the stool near direct heat sources or in damp environments to prevent wood movement and splitting.
