Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Plateel refers to a style of Dutch earthenware characterised by painted tin-glazed or lead-glazed surfaces. Developed around the turn of the 20th century, particularly in Gouda and Delft, it features distinctive matt or glossy floral and geometric motifs influenced by the Art Nouveau movement.

Art Nouveau wall lighting of this era typically combines hand-painted glaze earthenware or porcelain with backplates constructed from hardwood, cast iron, or brass. Electrical sockets were integrated into the ceramic body to house early bulb fittings.

Authentic Dutch Plateel ceramics generally feature hand-painted maker marks, factory ciphers, or painter signatures painted under the glaze on the reverse. Craquelure in the glaze, period-appropriate wiring channels, and hand-carved wood mounts further distinguish original items.

A ceramic wall sconce can be installed in a narrow hallway, alcove, or stairwell as an accent piece. Pairing ornate hand-painted ceramics with neutral wall tones allows the polychrome glaze and wooden trim to stand out without overwhelming the space.

Dust the ceramic and wood elements gently with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid soaking painted ceramic areas in water or using abrasive chemicals, as harsh liquids can seep into glaze crazing and damage underlying earthenware.
