Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A hanging cupboard, also known as a mural cupboard or wall cabinet, is a compact wooden storage unit designed to be mounted onto a wall. Historically produced throughout the 17th and 18th centuries, these cupboards were used to store valuable household items, herbs, or spices safe from moisture and pests.

Eighteenth-century cupboards were constructed predominantly from solid English or European oak using traditional joinery methods. Common structural details include hand-planed panels, hand-cut mortise and tenon joints held with wooden dowels or pegs, and relief carving executed by hand.

Authentic period oak displays irregular hand-hewn surface textures, uneven wear along contact points, and natural shrinkage across the grain over time. Look for hand-carved decorative elements, original wooden peg construction, and dark patination in recesses caused by centuries of wax application and age.

A carved oak hanging cupboard can be mounted above a sideboard, in an alcove, or within a hallway to create architectural interest. Contrast the dark, carved timber against neutral painted walls or pair it with minimalist contemporary furnishings to highlight its historical form.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft cloth and avoid chemical cleaners or aerosol sprays. Apply a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish and protect against moisture loss, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources.
