Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gaudy Welsh and Staffordshire figural wares originated in Wales and England during the nineteenth century to supply accessible decorative ceramics for domestic homes. Characterised by expressive folk designs and bright underglaze patterns, these items often depicted popular cultural figures, professions, and stylized characters.

These tobacco jars were typically slip-cast from earthenware clay and finished with a clear lead glaze. The vibrant decoration was applied using underglaze cobalt blue paired with hand-painted overglaze enamel colors, including iron red, yellow, and green.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces generally lack formal maker marks, featuring unglazed firing foot rims and evidence of hand-applied overglaze decoration. Look for light crazing within the glaze, weight consistent with heavy earthenware, and age-related wear around the inner lid rims.

Display figural jars in pairs on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or console table alongside contemporary books and minimalist ceramics. Their distinctive colors and graphic shapes provide an engaging visual contrast in modern or eclectic interiors.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a natural bristle brush. Avoid immersing the ceramic in water or using chemical solvents and abrasive scrubbers, as these can wear away fragile overglaze enamel paint and gilding.
