Description

A good Early 19th Century Antique English Georgian Blue and White Transfer Indented Pottery Hot-Water Plate, { Spode Shape No. S131 }, potted by Spode at their Spode Works, Stoke, Staffordshire. Printed in a medium blue palette with the "Gothic Castle" pattern, { Spode Pattern No. P708 }, unmarked, but this recognised as being one of the few of Spode's patterns so issued. Hot-Water plates were designed to keep an invalid's food warm whilst enjoying a meal, and can be found, although with some difficulty today, decorated in a variety of Spode patterns.

Height ~ 24.75 cm. / 9.75 inches ~ Width to include ears ~ 28.50 cm. / 11.22 inches ~ Depth ~ 5.50 cm. / 2.16 inches ~ Year ~ c. 1811/12
