In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian oil lamps were liquid-fuel lighting devices developed during the 19th century, designed to burn paraffin or kerosene. They typically feature a weighted metal base, a glass reservoir to hold fuel, a mechanical burner, and a glass chimney topped with a shade.

These lamps were commonly constructed using cast or pressed brass, copper, and cast iron for the base and column. The fuel font and shade were crafted from tinted, moulded, or hand-blown glass, accompanied by a thin, heat-resistant glass chimney.

Authentic pieces generally display period-specific burner mechanisms stamped with maker marks, natural oxidisation on the brass surfaces, and hand-finished glass elements. They also feature distinct construction traits such as threaded metal collars joining the glass reservoir to the base.

An antique oil lamp serves as a classic focal point when placed on a dining sideboard, mantelpiece, or console table. Pairing the warm metallic tones of brass and colourful glass with neutral modern backdrops creates an intriguing juxtaposition between historical detail and contemporary minimalism.

Clean glass shades and chimneys using warm water and mild dish soap, avoiding harsh chemicals that might damage coloured coatings. Brass components should be dusted with a soft microfibre cloth, leaving the natural patina intact rather than applying abrasive metal polishes.
