Sir James Drogmore Linton PRI HRSW 1840-1916.Painter of figure subjects in watercolour ; portraits and historical pictures in oil; lithographer.Pupil at JM Leighs Art School,and exhibited from 1863 onwards,at the RA,from 1865,SS,NWS(104 works),GG,NG,Dudley Gallery and elsewhere.In his early years he made many drawings for The Graphic; became an Associate of the NWS in 1867; RI in 1870;PRI 1884-98,1909-16;knighted in 1885.His studio sale was held at Christie’s on January 19,1917. ‘ Mary Queen of Scot’s’ initialled watercolour,image 46.5x32.5 cms ,framed size 70x55 cms; provenance : with Adam Schoon,Fine Art Dealer
