A superb canteen of antique Victorian sterling silver cutlery for twelve persons hallmarked in London for 1865 by George Adams. This set has been designed in the fiddle pattern style and sits comfortably in an attractive box with inlaid decoration. It is difficult to find sets from the Victorian era which are original with all the forks and spoons hallmarked in the same year and made by the same silversmith. This set consists of:
12 x table forks: 21.7 cms (8.5'') in length
12 x dessert forks: 17.5 cms (6.9'') in length
12 x table/soup spoons: 22.4 cms (8.8'') in length
12 x dessert spoons: 18.2 cms (7.2'') in length
12 x teaspoons: 14.5 cms (5.7'') in length
1 x soup ladle: 34.2 cms (13.5'') in length
1 x sauce ladle: 18.1 cms (7.1'') in length
12 x table knives: 24.5 cms (9.6'') in length
12 x dessert knives: 21.6 cms (7.1'') in length
Canteen box: 47.3 cms (18.6'') x 35.4 cms (13.9'') x 21.8 cms (8.6'')
This lovely set has be
...en well cared for over the years and remains in excellent condition. It would look impressive when displayed on the table and would be a pleasure to use. There are 86 pieces in total and the silver weighs 111.9 troy ounces (3,479 grams) without the silver handled knives. The silver handled knives were added in the year 2000 and were made by United Cutlers of Sheffield and compliment this set perfectly.
