Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swagger sticks originated in European military tradition as short canes carried by commissioned officers as a symbol of authority and regimented discipline. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, some variations were fitted with concealed steel blades for personal defence or private commission.

These items typically feature a forged steel blade housed within a turned hardwood outer scabbard such as malacca, bamboo, or cherry wood. The handle often incorporates sterling silver, nickel, or brass pommels, frequently engraved with regimental crests or military iconography.

Authentic pieces generally feature makers marks or silver hallmarks near the collar, alongside official regimental emblems or battalion inscriptions. The fit between the scabbard and the handle joint should be flush, with the steel blade demonstrating appropriate period forging and age-related patina.

These items are commonly displayed within glass-fronted cabinet showcases, mounted horizontally on wall brackets, or arranged inside cast iron umbrella stands in formal study spaces. They serve as historical accent pieces on dark wood bookshelves or executive desk displays.

Keep the wooden exterior lightly waxed with beeswax to prevent drying or splitting, avoiding excess moisture. The steel blade requires a thin coating of microcrystalline wax or mineral oil to protect against oxidisation, while the silver collar should be gently buffed with a soft cloth.
