Tall French Trumeau Mirror with Pastoral Oil Painting c.1890
A charming and decorative French trumeau mirror dating to the late 19th century, removed from a château interior. The piece features a finely painted oil-on-canvas panel above a mirror plate, housed within a painted and parcel-gilt wooden frame.
The upper panel presents a Rococo Revival scene in the manner of 18th-century fêtes galantes, with a courting couple and child by a riverbank, a wooded path, and rustic buildings in the distance. The mirror plate below retains natural foxing consistent with age. Finished in an aged cream with gilt mouldings, the frame retains its original panelled back.
Dimensions:
Height: 195 cm (76.75 in.)
Width: 100 cm (39.5 in.)
Condition:
Wear consistent with age and use. Minor cracks and wear to the painted surface. Some rubbing to the gilt. Mirror plate with light foxing. Old treated woodworm to reverse. Structurally sound and presents well.
