Antique French Napoleon III Ebonised Pier Cabinet with c.1860
A decorative and good quality mid-19th century French Napoleon III pier cabinet, dating to circa 1865. Ebonised throughout with fine brass stringing, gilt metal mounts and an especially attractive high-relief hunting trophy panel to the door depicting game birds and foliage.
The cabinet has a very elegant overall form, with classical gilt mounts, egg-and-dart mouldings and a beautifully detailed central panel which gives the piece strong decorative presence. The interior is fitted with three shelves, providing very useful storage.
Retaining its original working lock and key, accompanied by an unusual and attractive silver-mounted conch shell fob.
Offered as removed from a property. Structurally sound and presents well overall. There is visible age-related wear to the ebonised lacquer, particularly around the edges, top and base, together with rubbing and wear to parts of the brass inlay and mounts, all consistent
... with age and use. Some later shelf replacements internally. The cabinet could certainly continue to be used and enjoyed as it is, or refinished if desired.
A handsome and decorative period cabinet with plenty of character.
