19th Century Italianate Watercolour – Signed J.L., Dated 1877
A finely painted 19th-century watercolour depicting a traditional stone bridge in a southern European setting, with figures crossing and an unusual projecting structure over the central pier. The surrounding hillside town includes shuttered faēades, arched colonnades, and a distant bell tower, all characteristic of Italianate architecture.
Signed with the monogram J.L. and dated May 1877 to the lower right.
Likely the work of a travelling artist drawing on real and imagined elements of the Italian landscape, in the Romantic tradition of the Grand Tour.
Set behind glass in a later narrow gilt frame.

Signature: Monogrammed J.L. lower right
Frame size: 56.5 x 39 cm
