1950s Hamilton Pocket Watch

1940 - 1960
Description

1950s Hamilton pocket watch.

The watch has a Swiss hand-winding movement, calibre 669 made for Hamilton by Cortebert, which is working nicely. When civilian production was halted during WWII, Hamilton later restarted production but because they lacked a suitable in-house movement, they contracted the Swiss manufacturer Cortebert to produce the Grade 669 movement for these post-war pieces.

The watch measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition, just a little unevenness to the screw-on case back. The inside of the case back is signed with the Hamilton Watch Co name.

The glass lens is in good condition.

The signed dial looks good to the naked eye… there are a couple of short very faint hairlines if viewed through a jeweller’s loupe.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hamilton pocket watches from this era are known for precision, durable steel or gold-filled cases, and clear dial legibility often associated with American railroad timekeeping standards.

Cases are commonly crafted from stainless steel, nickel alloy, or gold plate, featuring glass crystals and enamel or metal dials with painted numerals.

Authenticity is confirmed by inspecting movement serial numbers, stamped maker markings on the dial and inner case, and verifying the presence of high-jewel mechanical movements.

A vintage pocket watch can be worn in a waistcoat pocket attached via an Albert chain, or placed in a dedicated pocket fob for a classic tailored accent.

Store the timepiece in a dry environment, wind the crown smoothly without over-tensioning, and have the internal mechanism serviced by a professional horologist every three to five years.
