Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced in England during the late 17th century, the chest on stand evolved as cabinetmakers began raising heavy storage chests onto elevated frames. This design improved access to lower drawers while incorporating decorative turned legs and shaped stretchers influenced by Continental craftsmanship.

These pieces were typically constructed using an oak carcass veneered with figured walnut, burr walnut, or laburnum. Details often featured herringbone or feather banding inlays, turned legs, and cast brass teardrop or swing handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy hand-cut dovetail joints, thick hand-sawn veneers, and pine or oak drawer linings. The presence of barley twist or spiral turnings, original brass lock plates, and irregular wear patterns on the stretcher rails also indicate age.

Position the piece as a focal point against neutral walls to highlight the rich figure of the walnut grain. Combining dark walnut case furniture with contemporary upholstery or minimal ceramics creates a balanced contrast in modern spaces.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish annually to protect the original patina. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent the wood carcass from shrinking or the veneer from lifting.
