Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian bar brooches became popular during the late 19th century as simpler, lightweight alternatives to heavy mid-Victorian jewellery. They frequently feature central decorative motifs such as flora, fauna, or geometric patterns mounted on a horizontal metal bar.

Pieces from this era typically feature 9ct or 15ct yellow gold, seed pearls, and natural gemstones such as garnets, amethyst, or tourmaline, as well as lead glass paste stones set in fine bezel or grain settings.

Authentic items often feature British gold hallmarks or purity stamps such as 9CT or 375, extended pin mechanisms that extend slightly past the edge of the brooch, and tube or C-clasp closures rather than safety catches.

Bar brooches can be worn modernly on coat lapels, shirt collars, or scarves, or mounted inside velvet-lined shadow frames and glass trinket dishes as decorative vanity displays.

Clean gold areas gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth. Avoid immersing seed pearls in water or liquid chemical cleaners, as moisture can dissolve the traditional organic glue securing the pearls.
