Kingsdown Antiques has dated this Georgian Silver Mounted Jug to the 1800s.

The sterling silver mount and hinged cover is finished with a stepped dome and a neat pouring aperture. The lid is fitted with an elegant heart-shaped thumb lift that adds a refined, tactile detail. Hallmarked for Sheffield, 1828 and marked ‘I.W’ for the maker ‘John Watson & Son’.

This type of mounted stoneware jug was commonly used for small servings of ale, cider, or spirits, and also valued as a decorative table piece.
