Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware produced primarily in the Netherlands and Britain during the 17th and 18th centuries. These objects were manufactured to imitate imported East Asian blue and white porcelain using European earthenware production methods.

Delftware was formed from reddish or buff earthenware clay, coated with an opaque white tin glaze, and hand-painted with metal oxide pigments such as cobalt blue prior to firing. The firing process bound the glaze to the clay body, creating a characteristic glossy surface.
