An 18th Century French Hepplewhite Upholstered Armchair

£1,600    $2,168    €1,885
A fine mid-18th century upholstered open mahogany armchair in the French Hepplewhite manner, with scrolling arms upon cabriole legs.

This light and refined design has ben executed in the manner of George Hepplewhite, and as a result its design is slender, well-balanced and curvilinear. It has wonderfully fine rope work carvings around the seat back.

Although French in appearance, the lighter drawing of this Louis XV form together with its overstuffed cartouche back are uniquely English design attributes.

This chair is upholstered in vintage Colefax and Fowler silk with embroidered scrolling oak branches across a tomato striped ground.

Please see our other listing for a painted 18th century chair with identical upholstery (final image)
