Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian papier-mache decorativeware refers to household and ornamental objects crafted from compressed paper pulp or laminated paper sheets, coated with asphaltum varnish, and decorated with japanning, gilding, or hand-painted artwork during the nineteenth century.

Pieces were made either by pressing paper pulp mixed with glue into moulds or by pasting multiple layers of paper over shaped forms, followed by heat curing, saturation with linseed oil, and baking prior to lacquering and hand decoration.

Authentic items typically feature heavy, dense construction, fine craze lines in the black lacquer finish, hand-painted details with natural paint wear, and sometimes stamped maker marks such as Jennens & Bettridge on the underside.

Place the item on a sideboard, coffee table, or console surface alongside neutral ceramics or natural wood elements to highlight its dark finish and detailed floral painting.

Dust gently with a soft dry microfibre cloth and keep away from direct sunlight, damp environments, or heat sources, avoiding all water and chemical polishes that can degrade the original lacquer.
