A good English oak close stool with ball-and-fillet turned legs and stretchers, scratch-moulded rails, and a bold waist mould, all of an excellent colour and patina. It is in good original condition and retains the original till.
A very similar example is photographed in Tobias Jellinek''s book, ''Early British Chairs and Seats,'' on page 260, plate 356.
Circa 1685.
