Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, wall-mounted fountain basins were decorative sanitaryware items created for conservatories, hallways, or outdoor courtyards, frequently featuring intricate ceramic transferware patterns and integrated brass taps.

These basins were predominantly manufactured from glazed earthenware or vitreous china, decorated using underglaze transfer printing techniques, and fitted with brass or bronze spigots.

Authentic period pieces usually feature underglaze transfer decoration, fine crazing within the glaze structure from age, stamped manufacturer marks on the reverse, and heavy cast brass fixtures.

A ceramic wall basin can be mounted in a cloakroom or sunroom as a functional washbasin, or installed in a courtyard garden as a decorative planter or water feature surrounded by greenery.

Clean the ceramic surface using warm water and a non-abrasive liquid soap to safeguard the glazed transfer work, while treating the brass tap with a gentle metal cleaner or leaving it untreated to maintain its natural aged patina.
