Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French ceramic manufacturers have produced figures inspired by carnival masquerades and Italian Commedia dellarte characters since the eighteenth century. These theatrical figures, including Harlequin, Pierrot, and Columbine, became popular decorative motifs in European homes during nineteenth and twentieth-century revivals.

These figures are typically crafted from press-moulded or slip-cast earthenware clay, fired at high temperatures, and finished with colourful tin or lead glazes. Hand-painted enamel detailing is applied to define facial features, costume patterns, and decorative elements on the base.

Authentic pieces often feature impressed or painted makers marks on the underside of the base, along with characteristic fine glaze crazing from age. Examining the depth of the hand-painted brushwork, soft wear on the unglazed foot rim, and the weight of the ceramic body helps determine age and origin.

Position them as a symmetrical pair on a fireplace mantelpiece, or arrange them inside a glazed display cabinet alongside contemporary art glass and books. Their vibrant glazes provide an ideal accent tone on dark wood sideboards or marble surfaces.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry artists brush to remove debris from detailed crevasses. Avoid fully immersing glazed earthenware in water or using abrasive chemical cleaners, as moisture can penetrate existing glaze crazing or damage delicate overglaze enamels.
