A Rare Chinese Blue Cinnabar Lacquer Tray Circa 1920

This most unusual Chinese tray or platter is made from cinnabar lacquer. It has been produced in a very rare colour way of blue over black lacquer.

The tray is extensively hand decorated with detailed carving through the blue lacquer and into the black. A similar technique to cameo work.

The centre of the tray has a rectangular panel which is profusely carved with a menagerie of creatures including cats, dogs, squirrels, rabbits, fish, birds and insects.

The central panel is framed with decorative boarders around its periphery.

This large decorative piece is in excellent original condition and would display well on a wall or flat surface.
