We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A coopered peat bucket is a wooden container constructed using traditional barrel-making techniques with fitted wooden staves held together by hoops. Originally designed in the 18th and 19th centuries to store peat or fuel near the hearth, brass-lined variants were also used to hold hot tea urns or house decorative plants.

These vessels were typically crafted from woods such as mahogany, oak, or fruitwood, bound with metal or ebonised wood bands. Higher-status examples feature brass linings, polished brass top rims, and sturdy brass swing handles.

Authentic period examples feature individually shaped wooden staves showing natural age wear, authentic copper or brass rivets, and genuine oxidation on metal components. Hand-coopered construction and removable brass liners are key indicators of original 18th or 19th-century manufacturing.

An antique coopered bucket functions well on a fireplace hearth for storing kindling or small logs. It can also be repurposed as a distinctive planter for indoor greenery or placed on a console table as a decorative storage container.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying clear beeswax sparingly along the wood staves. Keep the piece away from direct radiators to prevent the wood staves from shrinking, and polish brass elements using a specialised non-abrasive cleaner.
