Gillers Antiques Ltd has dated this Russian Imperial Porcelain Plate to the 19th Century.
The original service was produced in 1884 by the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg and formed part of the ceremonial tableware created for one of the most significant dynastic weddings of the reign of Emperor Alexander III.
Like many large ceremonial services, losses gradually occurred through use at official receptions and court functions. To maintain the service, replacement pieces were later commissioned from the M.S. Kuznetsov Association, the largest private porcelain manufacturer in the Russian Empire.
The plate is made of fine white porcelain with a scalloped gilt-edged rim and a deep cobalt-blue border. At the top appears the crowned conjoined cipher SE, executed in overglaze gilding. The decoration faithfully reproduces that of the original Imperial Porcelain Factory service.
The reverse bears the gilt Kuznetsov Dulevo Factory mark beneath the Russian Imperial double-headed eagle, a symbol of the company's appointment as a Purveyor to the Imperial Court. An impressed size number 2 is also present to the base.
A rare surviving element of the celebrated Romanov Blue Wedding Service and an important example of late Imperial Russian porcelain.

Condition: Wear to the gilding along the rim and minor wear to the cobalt border consistent with age. Otherwise very good antique condition.
