Pair Of Jacob Petit Bleu De Roi Perfume Bottles With Teniers Scenes C.1835-1845

A fine pair of French Vieux Paris hard-paste porcelain perfume bottles dating to the Louis Philippe period, c.1835-1845, attributed to the celebrated Jacob Petit manufactory of Fontainebleau and Paris.
 
Decorated with a rich Bleu de Roi cobalt ground and extensive gilding, the bottles feature finely painted tavern and dancing scenes after the works of David Teniers the Younger (1610-1690), the renowned Flemish master of genre painting. French porcelain painters frequently copied figures and compositions from Teniers'' engravings and paintings, and the quality of the miniature decoration here is particularly impressive.
 
The porcelain displays a characteristic greyish-milk tone together with tiny dark kiln specks associated with wood-fired production. Original kiln contraction lines visible on the bases are characteristic features of early nineteenth-century French porcelain.
