Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A longcase clock, also known as a grandfather clock, is a tall, free-standing, weight-driven pendulum clock enclosed within a wooden case. Developed in the late 17th century, these clocks feature a long pendulum mechanism protected by a tall trunk.

Georgian longcase clocks were predominantly constructed from dense timbers such as mahogany and oak, often detailed with satinwood or boxwood stringing. The clock movements feature brass plates, steel pinions, cast iron weights, and painted iron or brass dials.

Authentic longcase clocks display hand-carved joinery, period-correct movement mechanics, natural timber oxidisation, and original maker signatures on the dial. Weight-driven pendulum movements and hand-painted arch dials are characteristic of late 18th and early 19th-century construction.

A longcase clock can serve as a focal point in a hallway, entryway, or study. Pairing rich mahogany wood with modern neutral paint palettes, minimalist artwork, or traditional architectural moulding creates a balanced contrast.

Ensure the clock case is kept away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity to prevent timber cracking. Mechanical movements require periodic lubrication and servicing by a professional horologist every three to five years.
