Fine Quality Japanese Satsuma Vase - Kinkozan

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this exceptionally well painted Meiji Period (1868-1912), Satsuma vase from the highly regarded Kinkozan studios. This baluster shaped vase is predominantly decorated in cobalt blue adorned with lavish gilt and silver trailing flora of a style instantly recognisable as a work from the higher echelons of the Kinkozan studios. The pair of opposing panels are gilded in relief in a Moriage style , the first panel depicts a very complex battle scene with Samurai in lavish armour, by contrast the reverse displays a tranquil scene of bijins and children within a pavillion and garden setting, once again the kimono lavishly decorated in relief to an exacting standard. The underside of the vase bears a crisp gilt signature for Kinkozan as well as a factory seal. A super example that looks to have been cabinet kept since new.
